The Meiwa Kumquat is widely considered the sweetest and most flavorful kumquat variety available. Its small, round fruit is completely edible, including the sweet rind and pleasantly mild flesh, creating a perfectly balanced citrus flavor with very little bitterness. Whether enjoyed fresh, candied, preserved, or incorporated into seafood dishes, salads, desserts, and baked goods, the Meiwa Kumquat is an incredibly versatile addition to the kitchen.

In addition to its delicious fruit, the Meiwa Kumquat is an attractive ornamental tree with glossy evergreen foliage, fragrant white blossoms, and bright orange fruit that remains on the tree for weeks. Its naturally compact growth habit makes it an excellent choice for containers, patios, and backyard landscapes.

About Our Trees

What makes the Meiwa Kumquat sweeter than other kumquat varieties?

The Meiwa Kumquat is known for its naturally sweet rind and mild, flavorful flesh. Unlike some other kumquats that have a more tart interior, the Meiwa offers a well-balanced flavor that makes it one of the best varieties for eating fresh.

Can you eat the whole Meiwa Kumquat?

Yes. Like all kumquats, the entire fruit is edible. The sweet peel is eaten along with the juicy flesh, creating a delicious combination of sweet and tangy citrus flavors.

How do I care for a Meiwa Kumquat Tree?

Plant your Meiwa Kumquat Tree in a location that receives at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day and has well-draining soil. Water consistently while the tree becomes established, fertilize regularly with a citrus-specific fertilizer, and prune lightly as needed to maintain its attractive shape. Its compact growth habit also makes it an excellent choice for container growing.

How can I protect my tree from citrus greening and pests?

We highly recommend protecting your young trees from Asian psyllids and citrus greening (HLB) with a tree defender. For more information visit: www.thetreedefender.com

Should I mulch around my tree?

Do not pile mulch against the trunk. Excess moisture around the trunk can lead to decline, disease, and possible tree loss.
