Originating in Persia (Iran) and Iraq, the Persian lime is a cross between a key lime and lemon. It is the most widely cultivated lime species in the world, becoming the standard for culinary use commercially and at home.

The Persian lime fruit is larger, less acidic and seedless compared to its relative Key lime. The Persian lime tree is relatively thornless and produces fruit throughout the year, although most heavily in the summer months.
