About Our Trees

Does the Hirado Pomelo Tree need another tree to produce fruit?

No. The Hirado Pomelo Tree is self-pollinating, meaning a single tree is capable of producing fruit. However, planting additional citrus trees nearby may encourage greater pollinator activity and potentially increase fruit yields.

How do I encourage healthy growth and larger harvests?

For the best performance, plant your Hirado Pomelo Tree in full sun with well-draining soil, water consistently while it becomes established, and fertilize with a citrus-specific fertilizer throughout the growing season. Regular care helps promote vigorous growth and abundant fruit production.

Can I grow a Hirado Pomelo Tree in a container?

Yes. Dwarf and semi-dwarf Hirado Pomelo Trees are well suited for container growing. Use a large container with excellent drainage and move the tree to a protected location during freezing temperatures if you live outside its recommended outdoor growing zone.

How can I protect my tree from citrus greening and pests?

We highly recommend protecting your young trees from Asian psyllids and citrus greening (HLB) with a tree defender. For more information visit: www.thetreedefender.com

Should I mulch around my tree?

Do not pile mulch against the trunk. Excess moisture around the trunk can lead to decline, disease, and possible tree loss.
