The Sugar Belle® was naturally selected by the University of Florida as a mandarin hybrid that resembles the Minneola tangelo with its iconic bell shape.  The variety is low seed to seedless, easy to peel, very juicy, and has rich red orange color.  Sugar Belle® is known for being intensely sweet while perfectly balanced with a unique tartness that puts it at the top of consumer taste panels.

Being somewhere between a mandarin and an orange, the Sugar Belle® works great as a healthy, quick-peel snack like a mandarin or sliced and juiced like an orange.  The peel is also useful for cooking, cocktails, garnishes, potpourri, or essential oils.

About Our Trees

How should I care for a Sugar Belle® Mandarin Tree?

For best results, plant your Sugar Belle® Mandarin Tree in a location with at least 6–8 hours of direct sunlight each day. Water regularly while the tree is becoming established and apply a citrus-specific fertilizer throughout the growing season to support healthy growth and fruit development.

Does the Sugar Belle® Mandarin Tree require a pollinator?

No. The Sugar Belle® Mandarin Tree is self-pollinating and can produce fruit with just one tree. However, planting it near other citrus varieties may encourage heavier flowering and increased fruit production.

Can the Sugar Belle® Mandarin Tree be grown in a container?

Yes. Dwarf and semi-dwarf Sugar Belle® Mandarin Trees are excellent choices for container growing. A large container with good drainage allows gardeners in cooler climates to move the tree indoors or to a protected area during freezing temperatures while still enjoying fresh homegrown citrus.

How can I protect my tree from citrus greening and pests?

We highly recommend protecting your young trees from Asian psyllids and citrus greening (HLB) with a tree defender. For more information visit: www.thetreedefender.com

Should I mulch around my tree?

Do not pile mulch against the trunk. Excess moisture around the trunk can lead to decline, disease, and possible tree loss.
